Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Symptoms


The syndrome which is caused when blood vessels located between rib cage and collar bone is pressurized. As these areas have soft tissues, tremendous pressure on this area can become the reason of thoracic outlet syndrome. Thoracic outlet syndrome symptoms involve skipping of pulse and paleness of hand and shoulder. It happens frequently to people who carry loads more than their capacity to long distance. Though Thoracic outlet syndrome is not very serious syndrome yet it makes people suffer for some days. During these days of pain you have to keep your injured hand very safe and avoid it from carrying anything which may put stress on blood vessel. Even when you are sleeping, you must make sure that you don’t hurt the hand by any means.

It is very important to know Thoracic outlet syndrome symptoms as it will help you to react quickly if you are suffering from it. If you know the symptoms you can consult a doctor soon and know what to do to get well quickly. Some of the Thoracic outlet syndrome symptoms are as follows.

  1.      You feel like your whole hand and arm is cold or frozen.
  2.      Your hand and shoulder will pain constantly when you move your hand, when you keep your hand constantly in one position.
  3.      As circulation of blood is very restricted you will notice that your hand is bluish or whitish. Generally, when you keep your hand forward or above your head during this syndrome, your circulation of blood will be cut off. This is the most common Thoracic outlet syndrome symptoms.
  4.        When you go to sleep, you must take a pillow which only fills the gap between the bed and your body. Your head should not be in different level from that of your body. If you don’t have thin pillow then prefer sleeping without a pillow till the pain is over.
  5.        You feel the pain when you move your neck in all directions. Some people try to lift their shoulder but it makes the case even worse so this should be avoided anyhow.
  6.        You feel that your inner arm and fingers are tickling but itching doesn’t remove this tickling.

Thoracic outlet Syndrome Symptoms You can treat this syndrome by doing several steps. The first step is physical exercise. You should strengthen your shoulder. Your hand pains when you exercise during this syndrome so you can take pain killer but avoid taking pain killer after you complete your exercise. If you are not relieved by exercising then consult a doctor for surgery. By surgery your extra rib will be removed and this will release the pain from your body. Generally doctors give some medicine after surgery to bring your should and collar bone to original condition.
